Having been a contractor for over twenty years, I have observed many other contractors in the business. There are very few contractors in the business for the sheer love of it. Of course the contractor has to make a living as all contractors do. Most contractors stay in the business for less then five years. When the landscape business is slow for one or two years the average landscape contractor will become disenchanted with landscape contracting and move on to another field. In order to have the superior knowledge of landscape contractor design, the contractor needs a minimum of fifteen years experience in the field with hands on experience. Adding another dimension to the landscape contractor application would of course be a Nursery where the contractor is constantly exposed to planting, fertilizing, pruning and spraying a field nursery. Also of course the contracting out of the field material as the end result. A contractor familiar with all the aspects of the landscaping industry is invaluable and truly an asset to all areas of the contracting process.
